A hit is a single request to your website. A hit is not necessarily a view by a human visitor. Hits can be an indication that a search engine spider has visited your site. Traditionally, many websites used to report on the number of hits to their websites, equating that with popularity when in fact this is incorrect as a hit does not necessarily represent a human visitor coming to your site.
